The Mundane Gift Shop at Brunswick Festival: Celebrating Brighton’s Creative Community

If you love discovering independent shops in Brighton, creative makers, and unique illustrated gifts, the Brunswick Festival is one of the best places to explore the city’s vibrant small-business scene. Last weekend, The Mundane Gift Shop joined the festival — and it was such a joy from start to finish.

A Weekend Full of Creativity, Community and Local Makers

The park was packed with everything that makes Brighton & Hove such a special place:

  • independent stalls selling handmade crafts and illustrated gifts

  • live music drifting across the lawns

  • incredible food from local traders

  • families, neighbours, artists, and long-time residents all mixing together

But the best part? Meeting people face to face.
Having real conversations.
Connecting beyond a screen.

For so long I thought “community” lived online. But at 29, I’ve realised it’s built right here — in parks, at markets, at street festivals, and in moments where neighbours stop to chat and share a smile. Brighton isn’t just where I live; it’s where belonging happens.

Brighton’s Independent Creative Scene Continues to Inspire

One of the reasons I love running The Mundane Gift Shop is being surrounded by so many independent Brighton businesses with big ideas and even bigger hearts. The city is packed with illustrators, designers, makers and artists who pour so much passion into their work — and events like Brunswick Festival remind me why supporting local matters.

Whether you’re visiting Brighton for the weekend or you’ve lived here your whole life, exploring markets and festivals is one of the best ways to discover:
✨ unique illustrated gifts
✨ one-of-a-kind art
✨ small batch handmade products
✨ independent shops and creative stalls
✨ businesses you won’t find anywhere else

Brighton’s creative community truly makes this city feel alive.

Thank You for Supporting Local

To everyone who visited our stall, said hello, shared a story, or chose to follow our journey on Instagram — thank you. Your support means more than you know, and it keeps small independent shops like ours going.

We can’t wait to see you at the next Brighton market or festival. 💛💛💛
